Operations Manager
Lead practical, people-focused operations for Midland Scaffolding & Rigging. Drive planning, efficiency and growth with a collaborative, safety-first team.
Help shape the next stage of growth
Midland Scaffolding and Rigging has established itself as a leading provider of scaffolding, rigging, and industrial access solutions across New Zealand. Through a strong commitment to safety, quality, and service delivery, we have built long-standing relationships with clients across industrial, commercial, maintenance, and shutdown environments.
As a result of significant growth over recent years, we have created a new Operations Manager position to support our Directors and strengthen the operational capability of the business as we continue to expand.
The business is performing strongly, with an experienced team, established client relationships, and a solid operational foundation. The purpose of this role is to build upon that success by improving operations, planning, communication, workforce utilisation, and operational visibility as the business enters its next stage of growth.
We are seeking a capable operational leader who can think strategically with operational management to deliver exceptional outcomes for our clients.
About the role
Reporting to the Directors, the Operations Manager will oversee all operational tasks across the business. Managing operations involves strategic thinking, hands-on leadership and an ability to make decisions.
You will work closely with supervisors, planners, account managers, and clients to ensure resources are effectively allocated, projects are delivered efficiently, and operational performance continues to improve as the business grows.
This role is focused on supporting the wider team, creating efficiencies, improving communication, and ensuring the business has the systems and processes required to scale successfully.
Key responsibilities:
Develop and maintain a centralised operational planning system for maintenance projects and workforce requirements
Work collaboratively with clients, supervisors, planners, and account managers to identify upcoming work opportunities and resource requirements
Manage site leaders ensuring they coordinate labour allocation and workforce deployment to maximise utilisation, efficiency, and productivity
Manage workforce attendance, availability, and accountability across all regions
Support supervisors with workforce management, leave planning, performance management, attendance monitoring, and daily operational requirements
Strengthen communication and coordination between operations, planning, and account management functions
Identify and implement process improvements, systems, and technology solutions that enhance operational performance
Develop and maintain weekly and monthly operational reporting for leadership
Monitor key operational metrics and identify opportunities for improvement
Support the Directors with strategic planning and business growth initiatives
Champion a culture of continuous improvement, accountability, teamwork, and service excellence
About you
You are a practical and proactive operational leader who enjoys bringing people, systems, and processes together. You are someone who thinks strategically, then follows through operationally.
You understand that strong operational performance comes from effective planning, clear communication, accountability, and supporting teams to succeed.
Ideally, you will bring:
Previous experience in an operations management, workforce planning, logistics, construction, industrial services, maintenance, or related environment
Strong leadership and people management capability
Experience managing workforce scheduling, resource planning, and operational coordination
Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills
The ability to analyse data and make informed operational decisions
A continuous improvement mindset and a passion for operational excellence
Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities
A collaborative approach that supports both frontline teams and senior leadership
Remuneration and performance pathway
This role offers a competitive base salary along with a structured salary progression framework linked to the achievement of agreed operational objectives.
We want to pay for your contribution. With that in mind, rather than one-off performance bonuses, successful achievement of key milestones will result in permanent salary increases that recognise the long-term value delivered to the business.
Performance objectives will be agreed upon at commencement and will focus on measurable improvements in areas that you excel, such as:
Labour utilisation
Workforce attendance and availability
Operational execution
Service delivery performance
Planning and resource management
Operational efficiency and continuous improvement
At the commencement of year two, remuneration will reflect the level of objectives achieved and the contribution made to the ongoing success of the business.
