About the business

Optik NZ is a Christchurch-based strategic content company specialising in commercial, corporate, events, and real estate photography and video production. Led by Nik Dimock, the business works with clients across New Zealand to create high-quality, impactful content that actually moves the needle.

With demand growing, Nik is building out the team to keep delivering at the level clients expect.

About the role

This is a junior, hands-on role designed to support the day-to-day workload, especially editing, scheduling and assisting on key projects. This role will give you the chance to develop your skills in a real working environment.

You’ll be working closely with Nik, helping take pressure off the pipeline and keeping projects moving.

What you’ll be doing:

• Video editing in DaVinci Resolve (rough cuts, music sync, basic storytelling)

• Basic photo editing in Lightroom

• Preparing and organising projects (syncing footage, timelines, exports)

• Repurposing content for social media (Reels, TikTok, etc.)

• Posting and creating content where needed

• Keeping files, folders, and projects organised

• Occasional support on shoots (gear, setup, general assistance)

• Helping manage the super hectic schedule

The details

Nik is working hard at the moment on some key projects that have temporarily increased in nature. Because of this, the search is on!

• Selwyn based (in-person)

• Minimum of 10 hours per week, schedule is flexible to accommodate you

• Due to the temporary increase of work, we are looking for someone on a six-month fixed-term basis - this may extend or become permanent depending on the client’s needs

• Potential to grow into something bigger over time

About you

You’re at the early stage of your career and looking for an opportunity to learn by doing.

You don’t need to know everything - but you do need the basics, a good attitude, and the willingness to improve quickly.

You’ll likely have:

• A solid understanding or experience using DaVinci Resolve

• Basic video and photo editing skills

• Good organisation and attention to detail

• An interest in content, media, and storytelling

• Your own transport

Bonus if you have (not essential):

• Social media/content experience

• Epic photography or videography skills

• An eye for what makes good content

Most importantly, you’re reliable, easy to work with, and keen to grow.
